Advanced Critical Incident Leadership: “Navigating the Response to the Aftermath”

This two-day interactive course is designed to equip law enforcement leaders with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to navigate the complex aftermath of critical incidents. While the initial response is vital, the actions taken in the aftermath often shape the success of the operation and its long-term effects on the department, officers, and community. Through engaging lectures, detailed PowerPoint presentations, decision-making exercises, and facilitated group discussions, participants will analyze real-world incidents using video and audio examples. Students will also receive practical checklists and examples to serve as valuable references when managing their critical incidents, ensuring they are prepared to lead effectively during challenging situations.

Topics will include stress, burnout, traumas related to public safety, active listening, crisis intervention following trauma, marriage and family dynamics, mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, police complex spiral trauma, post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI), death and traumatic loss, line of duty deaths, public safety suicides, organizational stress, toxic personalities, substance abuse, and fostering resiliency among peer support members.

This 8-hour course provides an overview of Title 15, specifically related to Court and Temporary Holding Facilities, and Adult Type 1 Jails. Through lectures, facilitated discussion, shared experiences, and case studies, the participants will develop a working knowledge of the regulations established in Title 15 guidelines and special juvenile requirements. Participants will also be able to identify potential legal ramifications if they fail to adhere to those regulations. Participants will develop the insight to analyze their current department policies and procedures and identify risk factors that may lead to non-compliance.

Crisis Intervention and Behavioral Health Training

This 8-hour interactive training covers key topics such as mental illness, stigma, substance use disorders, developmental disabilities, and more. The course fulfills the requirements of Senate Bill 29, which mandates that all Field Training Officers (FTOs) complete 8 hours of Crisis Intervention and Behavioral Health training.

 

In addition, the class will feature a guest speaker who will share personal insights and experiences regarding the challenges of living with a mental illness.
